Heygen swaps itemized credit-cost FAQ table for vague usage-based pricing

Heygen's FAQ answer to "What are credits?" dropped the itemized credit-cost table, which had listed exact per-feature costs (Avatar III: 3 credits, Avatar IV/V: 20 credits, Dubbing: 2 credits, Full Translation: 5 credits, Video Agent: 20 credits/min), replacing it with a general usage-based pricing explanation.

WHY IT MATTERS

Watch whether Heygen's actual per-feature credit costs shift in the coming weeks now that the explicit reference point is gone. More broadly, credit/usage-based pricing is standard across AI video tools, so if itemized cost tables disappear as a pattern, it's worth tracking whether other vendors in the category follow with vaguer usage-based framing of their own.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Pulling a specific, comparison-ready cost breakdown is a packaging and disclosure signal, not a copy tweak

THEIR RATIONALE

Heygen doesn't state a reason, but the shift from a precise, itemized table to general usage-based language points toward wanting flexibility to adjust or add per-feature costs without needing to keep a public reference table in sync.

THE SIGNAL

Pulling a specific, comparison-ready cost breakdown is a packaging and disclosure signal, not a copy tweak. It removes a benchmark that prospective customers and competitors alike could measure Heygen's per-feature economics against, and this kind of de-itemization often precedes changes to underlying credit costs that a fixed table would have made immediately visible.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING

@HeyGen_Official charged me 45-63 credits for videos under 1 minute — I was first told the rate is 20 credits/min, then "it varies," then a totally different unconfirmed number. 3 reps, 3 answers, 312 free credits, and still no straight explanation of what I'm being billed for.

Sharing my recent experience with @HeyGen credit pricing for transparency. I tried to generate a 1:27 video. Based on the stated rate of 20 credits per minute for Avatar V, it should have cost around 29 credits. Instead, it was charged at 85 credits. When I reported it: • The first support agent confirmed it was a bug, said the correct cost should be ~29 credits, and advised me not to generate until fixed. • Later, Advanced Support said the higher cost is part of their “updated model framework.” • They confirmed they cannot guarantee a return to the previous rates. • They cannot adjust or freeze the rate for individual accounts. • There is still no official public announcement or timeline for the new pricing structure. There was no prior notice to users about this significant increase in credit costs. Just putting this out there so other users are aware.

@HeyGen dropped new API rates in my inbox. They go live Friday. Today’s Tuesday. Seventy-two hours of notice on pricing that people have built entire products around. What the hell are we doing here. Here’s the hit against their public pricing page right now: - AI Clipping jumps from $0.15 to $0.69 a clip - that’s +360%. -Video Agent goes from $0.0333 to $0.097 a second - +191%. -Avatar V from $0.0667 to $0.12 a second - +80%. -Digital Twin creation from $1.00 to $2.13 a call - +113%. And they bury it in a table that also cuts prices on the cheap stuff - lipsync, translation, filler-word removal all got cheaper. So the email reads like a balanced “some up, some down” update. It’s not. Every high-end endpoint just got jacked hard. Best part: Cinematic Avatar used to be a flat $7 a video. Now it’s $7.32 for 720p and $17.70 for 1080p. That’s not a price bump. That's strong-armed robbery. 1080p went up 153% and they just slipped it in as a line item like nobody would run the numbers. I don’t even mind paying more. Vendors raise prices. That’s the game. But you give people 30 days, not 72 hours, when their margins are locked to your rate card. Every shop running #HeyGen in production just had their Q3 rewritten for them on a Tuesday night and they are learning how to install ComfyUI to run open sources locally.
