WHY IT MATTERS

For teams building on fal's API, per-megapixel pricing makes Flux 3 Image's cost more directly comparable to resolution-based output, and at $0.024/megapixel it's priced well below Nano Banana 2's $0.08-per-image rate for comparable output sizes. Watch whether fal's rate card keeps pace with new model releases from Black Forest Labs and others at this clip — roughly a change every two and a half weeks since tracking began.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • New row priced at $0.024/megapixel (41.67 megapixels per $1)
  • Added just 4 days after a GPU rate hike of up to 33%
  • fal's 5th change in 90 days, averaging one every ~17 days
  • Feature additions are the most common event type index-wide (18.4% of changes)

THEIR RATIONALE

fal has been expanding and repricing its rate card aggressively since July — five changes in the last 90 days alone, averaging one every 17 days. This Flux 3 Image addition lands just four days after a broader GPU rate hike of up to 33% that also added a GB200 tier and the Nano Banana 2/Pro models, continuing the same pattern of widening its model catalog and adjusting pricing in the same release.

THE SIGNAL

Feature additions are the single most common type of pricing-page change across the index — 268 of 1,456 changes in the last six months, 18.4% — with infrastructure and model-API providers like fal, Vercel, and Together leading the pack as they race to keep rate cards current with new model releases. For fal specifically, this is its second tracked feature addition, both landing within the last week, pointing to a rate card being actively rebuilt around newer image and video models rather than patched incrementally.

IN CONTEXT

fal has rebuilt its rate card fast since July: this Flux 3 Image addition lands just four days after a GPU rate hike of up to 33% that also added a GB200 tier and the Nano Banana 2/Pro models, and a week after fal first published Audio and 3D model API pricing. Across the index, feature additions are the single most common type of pricing change — 268 of 1,456 tracked in the last six months — led by infrastructure providers like Vercel and Together racing to keep rate cards current with new model releases.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING

@sichytwitter

Cost for this exact set of 11 on @fal: FLUX 3: ≈ $0.57 (launch promo) / ≈ $1.14 (standard) Nano Banana Pro: $1.65 At 1K, FLUX 3 is $0.048 vs $0.15, so 3× cheaper (6× during promo). At 2K+ Nano's flat price wins after the promo.

I learned to stop rendering every page at full resolution after one invoice batch billed like a GPU rental. FLUX 3 pricing tells the same story: $0.048 a picture at 1K, $0.607 at 4K, over 12x for pixels on the same prompt. My rule now is cheap pass first, full resolution only on the pages that fail. Half price until Oct 8. What resolution do you generate at by default?

FLUX 3 Image says an edit leaves every other pixel alone, and so far the only proof is Black Forest Labs' own 25-edit demo. Half price ends 8 Oct. After that a 4K image lists at $0.607, so in practice, test ten chained edits yourself before you plan a whole shot list around it.
