PACKAGING CHANGE

Vercel splits Speed Insights into free and paid Plus Events tiers

Speed Insights now has a free base tier covering 10,000 events per team on a rolling 30-day window, plus a separately labeled paid 'Plus Events' add-on for usage beyond that.

WHY IT MATTERS

Watch whether Vercel applies the same free-base-plus-named-add-on treatment to its other bundled observability features (Edge, Blob, Sandbox) next — Speed Insights may be the template rather than a one-off, especially given how quickly Vercel has been touching CDN and overage pricing this month.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • 6th Vercel pricing restructure this year; 2nd most frequent in the index after Datadog (8)
  • Previous change just 3 days earlier: Backends/Marketplace update (Sep 21)
  • 9 changes in last 90 days; ~12-day average cadence between changes
  • 797 pricing restructures across 571 companies index-wide in last 180 days (14.1%)

THEIR RATIONALE

This is Vercel's sixth pricing restructure of the year and comes just three days after it added Backends and Marketplace Integrations rows to the pricing page — a pace far faster than a one-off tweak. At roughly a 12-day average gap between changes, Vercel is treating pricing as a live surface it iterates on continuously, not something to leave alone between quarterly resets.

THE SIGNAL

Splitting a bundled feature into a free base plus a named paid add-on, while also tightening the usage window to a rolling 30 days, is a metering-precision move — the same instinct Vercel applied to Connect's Token Requests overhaul in August. Pricing restructures now account for 14% of all changes tracked across the index in the last six months, and Vercel is tied for second-most-frequent restructurer behind Datadog.

IN CONTEXT

Speed Insights' free/paid split is Vercel's sixth pricing restructure since April, and its second in two weeks after bundling CDN overages into a flat rate on Sep 14. It follows just three days after the Backends and Marketplace Integrations update, underscoring a cadence now running roughly every 12 days — among the fastest in the index alongside Datadog and MindsDB. The shift from calendar-month to rolling-30-day usage windows echoes the metering precision Vercel applied to Connect's Token Requests overhaul in August. Pricing restructures account for 14% of all changes tracked index-wide in the last six months, but Vercel's rate of six in under three months puts it well ahead of that pace.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING

@dntyktwitter

Kalau data real user udah tinggal pasang, nebak-nebak makin susah dibela. Efek bagusnya, standar malu tim produk ikut naik.
