Synthesia replaced Syren's per-video time cap with monthly video-count quotas.

What changed

Synthesia changed how it limits video generation inside Syren, its AI video agent. Per Synthesia's pricing page as of Nov 7, 2026, the flat per-generation duration cap that applied to every plan — ‘Up to 3 minutes’ — is gone, replaced by a monthly video-count quota that differs by plan: 1 video on Basic, about 2 a month on Starter, about 7 a month on Pro, and a custom allowance on Enterprise. The row's label changed too, from ‘Video length’ to ‘Video generation.’ Separately, per that same Nov 7, 2026 pricing page update, Synthesia removed the explicit ‘3 a month’ cap on the Basic plan's AI Video Assets feature and simplified its description.

Why it matters

This is a metric change, not just a quota change: Synthesia now caps Syren by video count instead of by duration. A count cap is easier for buyers to budget against, but it doesn't scale with length — a team making short clips uses a full quota slot per clip, while a team making long videos gets more minutes out of each slot.

If you meter an AI feature by output count rather than duration or compute, pick the metric before launch and hold it: Pulse tracked Syren's launch on Oct 10, 2026, and switching its cap metric this soon forces every customer to re-learn what their plan buys. Before treating this as settled, note that Pulse is tracking a live A/B test on Synthesia's plan cards in which one arm shows Syren video estimates of about 24 videos a year on Starter and 84 on Pro — the same quotas shown now — so watch whether the count-based quotas stay.

In context

Pulse tracked nine changes to Synthesia's pricing page in the last 90 days, and this is the first of them to swap the pricing metric itself, not just a number inside it. Recent changes include Syren's launch on Oct 10, 2026, a promo-credit cut on Oct 22, 2026, the Roleplay add-on removal on Oct 29, 2026, and the credit calculator removal on Nov 3, 2026 — four days before this one, per Pulse's record. Pulse links the Roleplay and calculator changes to A/B tests it is tracking on this page, and the Syren video estimates shown now match one arm of the plan-card test. Across the companies Pulse tracks, metric changes like this stayed rare in the last 180 days — 59 changes across 53 companies, 2.2% of the 2,705 tracked. The sharper read: a duration cap is forgiving when one render runs long; a count cap is exact — so the shift could land harder on teams that make many short videos than the headline suggests.

Common questions

How do we budget for Syren under the new quotas?

Check your plan's new monthly video-count quota directly — Basic, Starter and Pro each carry a different cap now — and multiply it by how many Syren renders your team actually ships in a month, since a cap that used to scale with render length no longer does.

Is this part of a broader shift to count-based AI usage limits?

Not yet at scale — Pulse tracked pricing-metric changes like this at only 53 companies in the last 180 days, a small share of all pricing moves, and Synthesia had made none itself before this one, so treat it as Synthesia-specific for now rather than a market trend to copy immediately.

Should we switch our own AI feature from a duration cap to a count cap?

Only if count is actually what drives your underlying cost — Synthesia's swap only makes sense because video count tracks render cost closely, so confirm that correlation holds for your product, and lock the metric before launch so customers aren't re-learning it twice in a month like Synthesia's are now.
