Stripe splits Radar fraud protection into pay-monthly and pay-as-you-go plans
Stripe restructured Radar fraud-protection pricing from a two-tier model — Included at $0.05 per transaction plus a separate Radar for Fraud Teams tier at $0.02–$0.07 per transaction with a 30-day trial — into a Choose a Plan model with two options: Pay Monthly starting at $10/month, or Pay As You Go starting at $0.05 per transaction.

WHY IT MATTERS
The split into a named entry-level Radar Lite and a still-separate Fraud Teams tier suggests Stripe is building room to segment fraud tooling by merchant size and sophistication, not just by transaction volume. Watch whether Stripe extends named, tiered AI feature branding to other bundled capabilities, and whether competing payment processors respond with their own monthly-vs-usage fraud pricing options.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Included at $0.05 per transaction plus a separate Radar for Fraud Teams tier at $0.02–$0.07 per transaction with a 30-day trial
- into a Choose a Plan model with two options: Pay Monthly starting at $10/month, or Pay As You Go starting at $0.05 per transaction
THEIR RATIONALE
Stripe frames the change as giving merchants a clearer choice between a flat monthly commitment and pure usage pricing, rather than a single usage-only structure. Naming Radar Lite directly in the payments overview signals Stripe wants merchants to recognize the embedded AI fraud detection as a distinct, visible capability rather than folding it into vague optimization copy.
THE SIGNAL
The Pay Monthly option nudges what was a pure per-transaction cost into a hybrid usage-plus-subscription structure, echoing the broader seat-to-usage-to-hybrid drift seen across infrastructure and fraud tooling. Surfacing Radar Lite by name is also part of a wider pattern of vendors making previously invisible embedded AI features explicit and brandable rather than bundling them as unnamed "smart" functionality.
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING
@stripe is doing that thing SaaS companies love to do. First, they give you a feature for free. Then once you get used to it, they turn it into a paid add-on. This time it’s fraud prevention. Stripe says businesses using Radar Standard will be charged $0.05 per screened transaction unless they switch out of it. At first, 5 cents sounds small. But if you process a lot of orders, that can quietly turn into a serious extra cost every month.
View originalWow, Stripe is raising the pricing on Radar (fraud protection) from $0.02 per transaction to $0.07, and it will apply to all payment methods, not just credit cards anymore. That's a pretty steep increase imo. Stripe (and many other processors) continue to find ways to take more.
