Stripe adds real-time Postgres sync to Data Pipeline at $0.0025 per row

Data Pipeline adds a Postgres database sync option: pay-as-you-go at $0.0025 per row synced with 5,000 rows free per month, or a $100/month subscription including up to 50,000 rows synced.

WHY IT MATTERS

Pricing the new sync target per-row, rather than folding it into the existing $65/$100 monthly tiers, lets Stripe charge usage-sensitive customers (high-volume Postgres syncs) differently from flat-fee warehouse customers. Watch whether Stripe eventually migrates the warehouse-sync plans to the same per-unit model, or keeps the two pricing structures split by use case.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Postgres sync: $0.0025 per row, 5,000 rows free per month
  • Postgres monthly plan: $100/mo including 50,000 rows synced
  • Warehouse sync unchanged at $65/mo or $50/mo annual, now capped at 1,000 charges
  • Stripe averages a pricing change every 46 days; 11 changes in the last 90 days

THEIR RATIONALE

Stripe frames this as a capability expansion, not a repricing: the pitch moved from “send reports to your warehouse” with Sigma access bundled in, to “stream real-time data without managing APIs or webhooks.” The new Postgres option is priced per row synced, while the two existing warehouse-sync plans keep their published $65/$100 structure unchanged.

THE SIGNAL

Stripe's pricing-page cadence has picked up lately: 11 changes in the last 90 days against 15 over the full tracked year, well ahead of its historical average of a change every 46 days. Feature additions are also the single biggest category of pricing-page move across the index right now — 333 changes across 287 companies in the last 180 days, 19.6% of everything tracked — so a usage-priced new sync option launching inside an existing product fits the current pattern rather than standing out from it.

IN CONTEXT

Stripe's Data Pipeline history is a steady march of feature bolt-ons rather than big repricings — a Data export pricing addition last August, Visa/Mastercard dispute-prevention tools in 2025 — and this Postgres option follows the same shape: new usage-priced capability, existing plans left alone. The pace has quickened too: Stripe shipped its previous change just nine days earlier on Oct 5, adding Treasury cashback and a $329 card reader, well inside its historical average of a change every 46 days. Feature additions are the single most common pricing move across the index right now (333 changes, 287 companies, 19.6% of everything tracked in 180 days) — this week alone saw Anthropic add monthly API credits and fal add Flux 3 image editing in the same vein.
