Cursor rebuilds its pricing around Grok and X, with plans from $8 to $200
Cursor retired its Hobby/Individual ($20/mo)/Teams ($40/user/mo) lineup, where the Individual card offered Pro, Pro+ and Ultra options, and replaced it with Free ($0), Plus ($8/month), Premium ($30/month, marked "Most popular"), Super ($100/month) and Ultra ($200/month) individual plans, plus a per-seat Teams plan starting at $30/user; Enterprise stays custom-priced.

WHY IT MATTERS
The cheapest paid plan drops from $20 to $8 (Plus, Grok models only), Teams now starts at $30 per user instead of $40, and the top of the ladder runs to $200. The move bets on one subscription that bundles AI coding with consumer social features. Watch whether Cursor's next change, likely within its usual ~26-day cadence, builds out the X/Grok bundle further or trims pieces that don't resonate with its core developer base.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Cheapest paid plan drops to $8 (Plus, Grok models only) from the $20 Individual plan
- Teams now starts at $30 per user, versus $40 before
- First pricing restructure since tracking began Jul 20, 2026; 4th change in 90 days
- Restructures made up 13.7% of changes in the last 180 days (238 of 1,740)
THEIR RATIONALE
This is Cursor's first pricing restructure since tracking began on Jul 20, 2026, and its 4th change in 90 days, in line with its roughly 26-day average cadence — it landed 35 days after the last change, a round of contextual taglines added to plan cards. Before that, it dropped Composer from the "Generous limits" perk in August and added plan taglines in July. Pairing the repricing with X social features across the whole ladder suggests Cursor is optimizing for a combined AI-coding-plus-social subscription, not a simple price adjustment.
THE SIGNAL
Pricing restructures aren't rare across the index: 238 of the 1,740 changes tracked in the last 180 days (13.7%), at 204 companies. But this is the first one in Cursor's change history, and it rebuilds the whole plan ladder around a new feature category in one diff. That's a sharp break from Cursor's recent rhythm of small positioning moves: taglines, a trimmed perk, then taglines again. The same Free-to-Ultra lineup, at the same prices, now appears on xAI's pricing page too, so this reads as one shared Grok, X and Cursor subscription rather than a Cursor-only repricing.
IN CONTEXT
Cursor's pricing has moved in small steps since tracking began: contextual taglines added to plan cards in September, Composer dropped from the "Generous limits" perk in August, and a July tagline update before that. A full rebuild of the plan lineup around Grok and X features breaks that rhythm. The new Free, Plus ($8), Premium ($30), Super ($100), Ultra ($200) and Teams ($30+/user) lineup is identical to the one xAI now shows on its own pricing page, where the same plans list Cursor Agent, cloud agents, code hosting via Origin and Bugbot reviews. Restructures are common across the index (238 of 1,740 changes in the last 180 days, at 204 companies), but this is the first one Cursor has made.
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING
Long-time Cursor Ultra user and PM trying to understand the quantifiable reasons for switching to The X Subscription, and the customer value of this change to me. I asked Grok Heavy for conservative cost/value estimates based on user-reported token volumes, Grok pricing, and typical agent caching. Previous value (Cursor Ultra, $200/mo): • Cursor Models: ~$150–250 • Grok Bot: ~$100–200 • Access to premium models (Fable/Opus): $400 • Total: ~$650–850 New value (X Subscription Ultra, $200/mo): Applied the claimed “at least 2×” and extrapolated across 4 weeks: • Shared weekly pool (2× coding + 2× Bot, monthly): ~$300–500 • X Premium+ benefits: ~$30–40 • Third-party models: $0 • Total: ~$330–540 It looks like a net loss of $200–$400 of value at the same price. The $400 third-party allowance is gone, the first-party pools are now shared, and the 2× claims + X Premium+ don’t close the gap. We’re also not given equivalent models — Grok 4.7 is not a replacement for Fable. I’m all-in on xAI products and love Grok 4.7 as my daily driver, but it feels like I was put on a value plan with less value and lost my premium features even on the Ultra plan. I was basically given more Grok 4 and lost my Ferrari — along with $400 of usage in that Ferrari. Losing Fable/Opus-level reasoning creates a real gap in my end-to-end stack, and 4.7 doesn’t compete at that tier on the hardest agentic benchmarks. Until something like Grok 5 closes that gap, this no longer fully covers my use case, and the switch is permanent. @ericzakariasson @mattyp @cursor_ai — as someone who thinks a lot about helping customers realize value in products, this one is hard. I have real buyer’s remorse. It feels like I paid the same for roughly 40% less product and can’t go back. I can’t do that, especially as an Ultra user.
View original🚨 To all Cursor Users - DO NOT BUY THE UNIFIED X SUBSCRIPTION !! Its a trap ! and here is why ! I am currently paying 200$ for the Cursor Ultra Plan which ends up being about 170€. This new unified plan somehow costs 210 EURO which is 40€ more. Even with the X subscription included it is still more expensive than both plans separated. But the biggest trap is the separate billing for 3rd party models like claude 🤡 they are NOT included anymore which makes cursor worthless, so beware !!!
View originalI'm fully adopting the xAI stack now 💪 cursor for coding x for social grok bot for tasks grok for everyday chat cost: $200 cursor ultra $40 x premium+ $0 grok bot, cursor ultra covers it $0 grok, x covers it $240/mo total
