Canva drops the "up to 20" AI uses figure from its Free plan
Canva's Free plan pricing page no longer states a number for its AI allowance: the "AI usage" line that read "Up to 20 Standard or Premium AI uses" now reads "Limited access to Standard and Premium AI." The "up to 20" figure appeared on Sep 9, 2026, when Canva cut the Free allowance from "up to 200 Standard AI uses or 20 Premium AI uses" to a combined "up to 20 Standard or Premium AI uses." Nothing else on the Free card changed: price, CTA and the rest of the feature list are untouched.

WHY IT MATTERS
A stated allowance is easier for users to plan around and for competitors and analysts to benchmark. Watch whether Canva publishes a new Free figure, changes the actual Free limit, or applies the same wording to its paid tiers.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Previous change: Sep 11, 2026, Pro annual price cut 20% to $144 (49 days before this one)
- 16 pricing changes in the last 365 days; 3 in the last 90 days
- "Up to 20" AI quota first appeared Sep 9, 2026, when Free was cut from up to 200 Standard or 20 Premium uses
- 150 pricing changes across 129 companies touched free plans in the last 180 days (6.4% of all tracked changes)
THEIR RATIONALE
Canva hasn't published a note on the change, and nothing on the page explains it. The Free plan's AI line has changed twice this year: in September Canva cut the allowance and combined it into one number, and now the number is gone. The change lands 49 days after the Sep 11 cut to Pro's annual price, in line with Canva's roughly 49-day average gap between changes, with 16 pricing changes in the last 365 days and 3 in the last 90.
THE SIGNAL
Without a published number, users and analysts can no longer see from the page what Free includes. Free plans are an active area across the index: 150 pricing changes across 129 companies touched free plans in the last 180 days, 6.4% of all 2,350 changes tracked. Recent examples include Datadog dropping its free Infrastructure plan and Leonardo restricting free users to Auto-only models while paid plans keep 80+, while Locationiq doubled its free plan's access tokens the same week.
IN CONTEXT
Canva has changed the Free plan's AI allowance line more than once in 2026: a 200-use cap launched in April alongside a paid AI Pass add-on, then in September the Free allowance was cut from up to 200 Standard or 20 Premium uses to a combined "up to 20", and now the number is gone from the page. The change also follows a 20% cut to Pro's annual price on Sep 11, with 16 changes over the past year. Across the index, Datadog dropped its free Infrastructure plan and Leonardo moved free users to Auto-only models while paid plans keep 80+, while Locationiq doubled its free plan's access tokens the same week.
